Sports at DBSJP
Encompassing our proudly inclusive ethos, the physical education programme allows students of all ages and all abilities to develop their passion for sports and healthy, active lifestyles, whilst shaping and honing the skills of our talented sports people as they progress on their journey to excellence. Our school vision of ‘Enjoy, Aspire, Achieve’ provides the perfect base to build our programme, offering a diverse and differentiated suite of activities to inspire our students. We are excited to be on a journey to excellence while always maintaining the value that sport is for all.
PE lessons are dynamic and exciting and Team PE values the opportunity to nurture young people throughout their education.
Sport builds communities, brings people together and helps children achieve their personal bests.
The PE curriculum across Key Stages 1-4 aligns with the ‘Head, Hand and Heart’ assessment framework:
😃 Head: Applying knowledge and understanding of rules, concepts, strategies and tactics. Setting goals, acting on feedback and coaching for improvement.
🖐 Hand: Performing skills/technique in isolation and game/performance situations.
❤️ Heart: Effort, leadership, teamwork and communication skills to build skills for lifelong activity.
Using all three strands not only allows the PE curriculum to be delivered inclusively, it also targets key areas of development in students in a student-led way. The approach promotes a true sense of agency, with students taking ownership of their learning through ‘choice and voice’ and ensuring sportsmanship is at the heart of everything.
