A World Class School Offering the British Curriculum

Sports at DBSJP

Encompassing our proudly inclusive ethos, the physical education programme allows students of all ages and all abilities to develop their passion for sports and healthy, active lifestyles, whilst shaping and honing the skills of our talented sports people as they progress on their journey to excellence. Our school vision of ‘Enjoy, Aspire, Achieve’ provides the perfect base to build our programme, offering a diverse and differentiated suite of activities to inspire our students. We are excited to be on a journey to excellence while always maintaining the value that sport is for all.

PE lessons are dynamic and exciting and Team PE values the opportunity to nurture young people throughout their education.

Sport builds communities, brings people together and helps children achieve their personal bests.

The PE curriculum across Key Stages 1-4 aligns with the ‘Head, Hand and Heart’ assessment framework:

😃 Head: Applying knowledge and understanding of rules, concepts, strategies and tactics. Setting goals, acting on feedback and coaching for improvement.

🖐 Hand: Performing skills/technique in isolation and game/performance situations.

❤️ Heart: Effort, leadership, teamwork and communication skills to build skills for lifelong activity.

Using all three strands not only allows the PE curriculum to be delivered inclusively, it also targets key areas of development in students in a student-led way. The approach promotes a true sense of agency, with students taking ownership of their learning through ‘choice and voice’ and ensuring sportsmanship is at the heart of everything.

DBSJP’s Competitive Programme

We believe that regular participation in sporting activities instils passion, respect, integrity, resilience, teamwork, commitment and sportsmanship in our students and as a result have grown the competitive sports programme at DBSJP to become a broad and balanced offering.

Following the Dubai Affiliated Schools Sports Association (DASSA), Dubai School Games and British Schools Middle East (BSME) sporting calendars, our sports fixtures are played throughout the week, with some events scheduled at weekends. We host several sports tournaments and swim galas throughout the year and enjoy success in a wide variety of competitions throughout Dubai and the UAE.

The competitive programme is continually evolving, and we take on board student and parent feedback to adapt and grow our competitive sports provision, so that the direction of sports is truly driven by the community at DBSJP.

Opportunities for All

Inclusive Events

We are proud hosts of the Unified Games Athletics competitions and are passionate about creating inclusive sporting opportunities for all and celebrating achievements at every level. Participation in and hosting of the Unified Games offers our higher-need learners the chance to experience the same opportunities as their peers.  We work to develop swim confidence for students who need additional support in this area and have weekly sensory circuit sessions to support children who need this interaction for focus before the school day.

 Gifted and Talented Programme

We provide an enrichment programme, in addition to the usual, high-quality provision within lessons, to stretch our students who have been identified as Gifted & Talented in sports. The programme aims to develop and challenge these students through a range of inspiring opportunities. This includes: online workshops, goal setting, mentor meetings, skill, mindset and balance seminars and the opportunity to work with external agencies, where appropriate. These student also have the opportunity to compete in National and Internation competitions.

Sports Leadership

At DBSJP, we have a culture of kindness and believe that the ability to lead and inspire is within everyone. We offer Sports Leadership opportunities from Key Stage 2 to support our students in developing their communication, organisation, teamwork and leadership skills. Sports Leadership opportunities include:

  • Key Stage 2 Play Leaders
  • Key Stage 3 Junior Sports Leaders
  • Key Stage 4 Sports Leaders
  • Sports Council Sports Association Courses

Sports Leaders have regular opportunities to work with their peers and younger students, and we are incredibly proud of how they collectively inspire others each year!

Community Partners

We are proud to work alongside some of the best community providers in Dubai who support us in lessons and the ECA program. Their involvement allows us to develop our young sports people when they are yet ready to join competitive squads through the Aspire sports provision.

Sporting Facilities

The exceptional sports facilities at Dubai British School Jumeirah Park include a professional-grade sports hall, equipped with multi-purpose courts, and ample space for a variety of sporting activities, providing the ideal environment for students to develop their physical skills and athletic prowess.

Our expansive, outdoor 4G astroturf pitch allows students to engage in a wide range of sports, from football and rugby to track and field events, gaining invaluable real-world experience in a professional setting.  Students also benefit from access to specialised facilities such as two fully equipped conditioning suits, designed to support comprehensive strength and conditioning programs; tennis courts (one clay, one hard-court), an indoor 25m 8-lane swimming pool and an indoor learner pool and three dance studios with sprung floors.

For older students, our sporting classrooms and online learning space offer hands-on experience with the latest technology in sports performance analysis, allowing students to develop technical skills in coaching, physiology, and nutrition. This practical experience promotes critical performance evaluation and provides them with real-world expertise.
